On March 19, 2023, the Vallejo Police Department received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision near the intersection of Curtola Parkway and Lemon St.
Our officers arrived at the scene and observed a Toyota Camry with significant front-end damage resting on the sidewalk. Based on the collision factors, the driver of the Toyota was traveling the wrong way on Curtola Parkway, lost control of the vehicle, and went off the roadway. The Toyota knocked down a tree entirely and eventually stopped after colliding with a charging station pole.
Our officers contacted the driver and immediately observed that he was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. There were three passengers inside the vehicle whom all appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage too.
One of the passengers was a female who became belligerent with officers while throwing up outside the vehicle. The female suddenly lunged at one of our officers and grabbed his firearm. Our officer forced her hand off his gun, and the responding officers arrested her.
Our officers repeatedly told the other passengers to back away from the female while they were arresting her. One male refused to back up and comply with our officers' orders. The male was arrested for obstructing justice and public intoxication.
The driver was arrested for DUI, and his vehicle was towed from the scene. Everyone arrested was medically cleared for incarceration and transported to county jail.
Last year there were approximately 24 fatalities due to traffic collisions in Vallejo. This is the highest number of traffic-related deaths ever recorded in Vallejo. The Vallejo Police Department urges everyone to drive safely and please do not drink and drive.
